Roof-Pro were commissioned by one of the worlds leading telecom construction groups to design a step-over and cat ladder for there prestigious London project.

The contractors wished to provide safe worker access from the roof down to the plant room without invasive damage to the roof. Roof-pro surveyed the site advising the contractors on the best possible alternatives.

After close project liaison with the contracting team – reviewing there site drawings and preparing CAD drawings of our proposals, our design team began to engineer the access system.

The site required a step-over to overcome a 450mm wide duct before dropping into an access void descending 5.5mtr into the plant room via a cat ladder. The step-over design comprised of hot dip galvanised steel with a 1700(L)x 800(W) landing, 2no. ascending threads from the roof to the landing with 65mmx10mm hand rails for safe secure passage. The step-over was supported on the roof deck via 2 threaded bases with the landing end cantilever supported by the vertically fixing to the concrete substrate.

Cat Ladder

The cat ladder bolted to the landing descending 505mtr to the plant floor. Comprising of hot dipped galvanised steel with 65mmx10mm rails, 65mmx8mm hoops and 20mm diameter bar threads.

The access system was pre-fabricated off site and delivered when required by the contractors in manageable sections. The contractor was pleased with the outcome Roof-Pro had provided them with a custom access system to their needs on time without jeopardising the integrity of the roofs waterproofing.
