With safe working at height becoming a pressing issue for building owners, the facilities management team at Staines shopping centre commissioned Roof-Pro to design a Step-over for safe worker passage on their roof.

With consultation from our technical managers the facilities management team decided that using Roof-Pro had many advantages over permanently fixed access alternatives. This included having a solution that was specific to the roofs design, quick installation and the non penetrative support design that eliminated cold bridging aiding compliance with Part L.

The design, incorporating BS5395, was fabricated to accommodate a change in roof level that must clear a dividing wall that is 1113mm high followed by a 298mm drop on the other side.

The step-up consisted of five threads 284mm (W) x 1000mm (L) with Durbar plate nosings, leading to a platform grid 1420mm (L)x 1000mm (W) followed by one thread step down and twin handrail with kick plates for safe secure passage.

The client received their step-over on time with a simple to install prefabricated design that permitted quick installation by the contractors without structural penetrations.
