As part of a private roofing refurbishment in London, Roof-Pro were approached by the property surveyor to design a step-up platform to assist safe passage from one residential building to the next. Our in house surveyor went to site to review the project and consulted on the best solution. On examination it was made clear that the in situ access steps cold bridging at the roof junction was unacceptable, contributing to the early demise of the roof. To prevent the new refurbished roof from suffering the same fate a custom non penetrative access walkway system would be required.

Roof-Pro set about engineering the access requirements to the particular roof design incorporating BS 5395 to meet current best practice. The design comprised of 11 Durbar plate nosing threads to the target height of 2250mm which led on to a L shaped grid walkway around a chimney joining with the fire exit platform that ran along the parapet wall on the adjacent building. The walkway incorporated twin handrails for safe passage.

The installation was supported at four points by pivot and threaded bases that were independent from the waterproofing. This not only prevented the need for complex roof detailing - often the source of leaks and heat loss, but facilitated on site adjustment to allow for a fall in the roof.
